Dealing with a Boot Failure

Dealing with a Boot Failure
If your usual boot device (typically a disk) is not responding as it should,
you try to boot from the disk (or another boot device) by selecting it
manually. Note that you must use the boot console handler (bch) to
perform the steps in this section.
To boot a device manually, follow these steps:
A common cause of boot failures is forgetting to connect your
Low-Voltage Differential SCSI terminator to the connector on the back of
the last external SCSI device.
Your computer automatically shuts down the operating system before it
terminates the power.
1. Power on your computer after your system has completely shut down.
If auto boot is turned off, the boot sequence automatically stops at
the boot console Main Menu. If auto boot is turned on, you will see
the following message:
Processor is starting auto boot process. To
discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds.
If auto boot and auto search are both turned on, you will see the
following message:
Processor is booting from first available de-
vice. To discontinue, press any key within 10
seconds.
If you are using a power-saving monitor, you will have less than 10
seconds from the time this message appears to press a key.
