Symptom
Fax starts to send but stops
before the transmission is
complete.
Problems
Line connection

Third-party fax
software does not
detect the fax modem
driver.

software is conflicting
with another program.
The receiver for
another telephone on
the same line was
picked up.
Fax machine where
call is being placed
has run out of paper.
Computer needs
repair.
Solutions
Redial the fax number to resend the fax.
Verify that correct fax modem speed and COM
port are selected:
1. From the Windows taskbar, click Start, point
to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window is displayed.
2. Double-click Modems. Windows detects the
modem you have installed.
3. Click the Properties button. An identification
window is displayed.
4. Verify that the correct modem port is set and
the maximum speed of your modem is
selected. Reset these if necessary.
5. Click OK to close the identification window.
6. Click close to close the Modems Properties
window.
7. Click the Close button in the upper right
corner of the Control Panel window to return
to the Windows desktop.
Close all programs except the fax software, and
redial the fax number.
Verify that all telephone handsets on the same
line are on their bases.
Call location where the fax is being sent and ask
if the fax machine has paper.
