Symptom
Computer seems to be locked
up.
Hard drive error message is
displayed.
Hard drive fault protection error
message is displayed.
Problem
Program in use has
stopped responding to
commands.
Part of the hard drive
has failed.
Part of hard drive is
about to fail or could
already have failed.
Solution
Attempt a normal Windows shutdown. If this
fails, press the Reset button for four or more
seconds to turn off the power. To restart your
computer, press the Reset button again.
Run the Windows Maintenance Wizard to repair
the drive:
1. From the Windows taskbar, click the Start
button, point to Programs, then
Accessories, then System Tools, and then
click Maintenance Wizard. The
Maintenance Wizard is displayed.
2. Select the Perform maintenance now
option.
3. Click OK.
