Operating Safety Rules and Practices

Operator Responsibility

Safe operation is the responsibility of the operator.
The operator shall develop safe working habits and also be aware of hazardous conditions in
order to protect himself, other personnel, the truck, and other material.
The operator shall be familiar with the operation and function of all controls and instruments
before undertaking to operate the truck.
Before operating any truck, truck operators shall have read and be familiar with the operator's
manual for the particular truck being operated and they shall also abide by the safety rules and
practices in para. General through para. Operator Care of the Truck.
Before operating any truck, the operator shall be familiar with unusual operating conditions
that may require additional safety precautions or special operating instructions.

General

Use 3-point contact when mounting or dismounting a truck when the operator's compartment
floor height is 300 mm or higher. Maintain contact with one hand and two feet or two hands and
one foot at all times. Keep hands free of items (i.e. food, beverage, tools)
Before starting to operate the truck

be in operating position
2.
place directional controls in neutral
3.
disengage clutch on manual transmission-equipped trucks, or apply brake on power shift
or automatic transmission-equipped trucks and electric trucks
4.
start engine or turn switch of electric truck to "ON" position
Do not start or operate the truck, any of its functions or attachments, from any place other
than from the normal operator's position.
Keep hands and feet inside the operator's compartment. Do not put any part of the body
outside the operator compartment of the truck.
Never put any part of the body into the mast structure or between the mast and the truck.
Never put any part of the body within the reach mechanism of the truck or other attachments.
Understand truck limitations and operate the truck in a safe manner so as not to cause injury
to personnel. Safeguard pedestrians at all times.

Do not drive a truck up to anyone standing in front of an object.

Ensure that personnel stand clear of the rear swing area before conducting turning
