Troubleshooting
Initialize only using the camcorder
- Initialize the card with this camcorder (A 32).
May not be possible to record movies on this memory card
- You may not be able to record clips on an SD card without a Speed Class rating or with a rating lower than
112
recommended. To record clips with a resolution of 3840x2160 or using slow & fast motion recording, use an SD card
rated UHS Speed Class U3. To record other clips, use an SD card rated SD Speed Class 6 or 10, or UHS Speed Class
U1 or U3.
Memory card cover is open
- Close the card compartment cover after inserting a card.
Memory card is full
- The card is full. Delete some recordings (A 91) to free some space or replace the card.
Memory card is write-protected
- The LOCK switch on the SD card is set to prevent accidental erasure. Change the position of the LOCK switch.
No clips
- There are no clips on the selected card.
No memory card
- Insert a compatible card into the camcorder (A 32).
No photos
- There are no photos on the selected card.
Operation canceled
- Clips cannot be recorded because the control data is corrupted or an encoder error has occurred. (Control data
cannot be recovered with the camcorder.) Turn the camcorder off and the on again. Remove the cards and reinsert
them, or replace them with new cards. If the problem persists, consult a Canon Service Center.
Process terminated with error
- The card compartment cover was opened or an error occurred during the initialization of a card. Initialize the card
again. If the card still causes an error message, try replacing the card.
Recording was stopped due to insufficient write speed of the memory card
- The write speed of the SD card was too slow so recording was stopped. To record clips with a resolution of 3840x2160
or using slow & fast motion recording, use an SD card rated UHS Speed Class U3. To record other clips, use an SD
card rated SD Speed Class 6 or 10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or U3.
- After repeatedly recording, deleting and editing clips (fragmented memory), it will take longer to write data on the SD
card and recording may stop. Save your recordings (A 99) and initialize the card (A 32).
Some clips could not be deleted
- Clips that were protected/edited with other devices and then transferred to a card connected to the computer cannot
be deleted with this camcorder.
Task in progress. Do not disconnect the power source.
- The camcorder is updating the card. Wait until the operation ends and do not disconnect the compact power adapter
or remove the battery pack.
This photo cannot be displayed
- You may not be able to display photos taken with other devices or image files created or edited on a computer and
then transferred to a card connected to the computer.
Too many photos and MP4 movies. Disconnect the USB cable.
- The card contains too many clips and photos. Disconnect the USB cable and delete recordings until the card contains
a combined total of 2,500 (Windows)/1,000 (macOS) or fewer recordings and then use a card reader to transfer the
recordings from the card.
- If a dialog box appeared on the computer screen, close it. Disconnect the USB cable, and restore the connection after
a short while.
Unable to recognize the data
- The camcorder cannot recognize data that was recorded using a video configuration that is not supported (NTSC).
Unable to recover data
- Could not recover a corrupted file. Save your recordings (A 99) and initialize the card (A 32).
- The camcorder may not be able to recover clips when there is not enough space on the card. Delete some clips
(A 91) to free some space.
