PIO
Your system supports five modes, 0 (default) to 4, which primarily differ
in timing. When Auto is selected, the BIOS will select the best available
mode after checking your hard drive.
Auto The BIOS will automatically set the system according to your
hard disk drive' s timing.
You can select a mode that matches your hard disk drive' s
0-4
timing.
Onboard FDC Controller
Enables the onboard floppy disk controller.
Enabl e d
Disabled Disables the onboard floppy disk controller.
Onboard UART 1 and Onboard UART 2
3F8/IRQ4 Selects an address for the onboard serial port 1 and serial
2F8/IRQ3 port 2.
3E8/IRQ4
2E8/IRQ3
Disables the onboard serial port 1 and/or serial port 2.
Disabled
Onboard UART 2 Mode
The 586IHX system board supports IrDA function for wireless connectiv-
ity between your computer and peripheral devices. To use the IrDA
function, follow the steps below.
1. Connect your IrDA cable to connector J2 of the 586IHX system
board. Refer to page 12 for the location of connector J2.
2. Set " Onboard UART 2 Mode" to the type of IrDA standard sup-
ported by your IrDA peripheral/device.
