CONTROL-1500A Single Axis Antenna Controller
Chapter 4 – Controller Operational and Programming Modes
The controller's current mode is displayed in the lower right hand corner of the LCD. Each of
the controller's modes are members of either the Operational mode group or the or the
Programming mode group. Operational modes are the ones used in everyday operation.
Programming modes are used to setup and configure the controller.
The Operational Mode Group consists of three modes: MAN (Manual), AUT (Auto), and REM
(Remote). Programming Mode Group consists of the following modes: LIM (Limits), SET
(Setup), RST (Reset), DEL (Delete), FIX (used for pulse sensor resync), and CFG (Config).
To toggle between the Operational and Programming modes, depress the Mode key for at
least five seconds and release. Rapidly depressing and releasing the Mode key will activate
the next mode in the current mode group.

Manual mode allows the user to manually jog the antenna position and polarization using Az
CCW, Az CW and Pol CW/CCW keys. Note that the Down key has the same effect as the Az
CCW key and the Up key has the same effect as the Az CW key.
Depressing the Speed key will toggle between Fast and Slow antenna movement. Section 3.5
describes configurtion of the controller's slow speed system.
The POS field displays the current antenna position. The POL field shows the current polarity
position. If the antenna or polarization is at a limit, CC or CW (for CounterClockwise and
ClockWise) will be displayed in the POL and POS fields.
The H and V keys will select the preset horizontal and vertical polarizations of the satellite that
was last a target of the auto-move system. Note that polarization control is available only
when the AutoPol feature is disabled. When AutoPol is enabled, the MANUAL mode display
will change the character after the polarization position to 'a'. The AutoPol system is described
in section 3.8.
The SS (Signal Strength) field displays relative received signal levels derived from a pair of
analog voltages input to the controller via the AGC1 and AGC2 terminals on the controller's J1
rear panel connector. The analog voltages must lie somewhere in the range of 0 to 10 volts.
Each of the input channels has gain and offset potentiometers that can be adjusted via
openings in the controller's back panel. Section 3.6 describes the potentiometer adjustment
procedure.
The Scroll Up and Scroll Down keys determine what is displayed in the SS field (support for
the Scroll Up/Down keys was added with version 1.5x of the software). When Manual mode is
first invoked, the signal level of the AGC channel with the greatest signal strength will be
