Prerequisites

In order to make sure that the correct facepiece size is used, perform
a quantitative fit test. The fit test is to be conducted in accordance with
the requirements outlined in the OSHA respiratory protection standard
29 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1910.134.
A fit factor of 500 is required. If the fit factor is not achieved, other
appropriate respiratory protection must be used.

Preparation for use

3.2.1
Adapting the facepiece
CAUTION
!
Facepiece wearers must each be provided with the facepiece
size suitable for them. In most cases, a facepiece of standard
size M2 is used. If leaktightness is a problem, facepieces si-
zed S or L should be used. Always make sure prior to use that
the facepiece is leaktight.
Spectacle wearers should wear facepiece spectacles.
Install facepiece spectacles, if necessary.
3.2.2
Keeping the facepiece ready
1. Remove the protective film from the visor prior to first use.
2. Check the facepiece prior to first use (see chapter 4.4 on
page 12).
3. Fully open the hairnet.
4. If necessary, put the neck strap around the neck and fasten it in
retrieval position (Figure B).

Donning the facepiece
NOTICE

i
With low temperatures, the equipment wearer can reduce
facepiece fogging by either inhaling or holding his breath
when donning the facepiece.
1. Remove the facepiece from the retrieval position.
2. Pull the hairnet apart, then place your chin into the chin cup
(Figure C).
3. Pull the hairnet over the head and draw backwards.
4. Adjust the facepiece.
5. Stretch evenly tight; first the neck straps, then the temple straps
(Figure D).
3.2.4
Fit-checking the facepiece
1. Put the lung demand valve of the SCBA in the connection piece.
2. Turn and pull the lung demand valve to check for tight fit. Have a
second person check the firmness and correct connection.
3. Close the medium pressure hose with your thumb.
4. Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should be perceived,
otherwise check the fit of the facepiece. The exhaled air must
escape through the exhalation valve without resistance.
5. Repeat the fit check twice.
6. Connect the self-contained breathing apparatus.
Alternative fit check, which allows you to keep the lung demand valve
connected to the self-contained breathing apparatus and the
facepiece:
1. Close cylinder valve.
2. Inhale all air from the system, then carry out leak test.
3. Open the cylinder valve again.
