Parallel partial discharge and dissipation factor measurement
The VLF HV generator determines the applied load. Load determination takes approx.
10 – 20 seconds depending on the load. This is shown by the message Load
determination in progress....
Note: Information on adapting the frequency and voltage adaptation according to the
load capacitance of the test object is given in user manual of the respective VLF HV
generator.
The dissipation factor measurement is started after the load determination. The menu
item Start changes to Stop.
The following message is displayed in the display of the VLF HV generator: Start PD
measurement on PD-TaD.
8. Confirm the message on the VLF HV generator with Yes and start the PD testing in the
BAUR system software on the laptop.
Further information: User manual for the BAUR software 4
The dissipation factor measurement ends automatically after the stipulated measuring
time for each voltage step. However, the applied voltage remains available for the PD
testing.
The following message is displayed in the display of the VLF HV generator: Select
<Yes> to continue the tan δ measurement.
9. To continue the dissipation factor measurement at the next voltage step, confirm the
message by pressing Yes.
The following message is displayed in the display of the VLF HV generator: Start PD
measurement on PD-TaD.
10. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for further voltage steps.
The measurement ends automatically after the last voltage step or after reaching one of
the preset threshold values. After the measurement, the high voltage is reduced and the
VLF HV generator is discharged internally. This is shown by the message Discharge
process.
When the discharge process is completed, the VLF HV generator changes to the Ready
for operation operating state. The green indicator light goes out, the red indicator light
comes on. The VLF HV generator no longer delivers dangerous voltage. A safety
message appears which prompts you to discharge, earth and short-circuit the test object.
DANGER
Dangerous voltage on the test object and other live machine parts. Danger to life,
risk of injury from high electric voltage.
11. Before touching test object, discharge, earth and short-circuit the same: at the
connection point and at the far end.
You may touch the plant parts that were under voltage only if they are visibly earthed
and short-circuited.
Further information: Chapter Discharging and earthing the test object (on page 93)
12. Discharge and earth the HV IN and HV OUT ports of the PD-TaD 62 using the discharge
rod of the VLF HV generator (standard delivery of VLF HV generator).
13. To stop the measurement, select the menu item Finish and press the rotary knob to
confirm.
A prompt appears asking if you want to save the log for the measurement carried out on
the VLF HV generator.
14. Confirm the prompt by pressing Yes. You can find further information on saving the log
in the chapter Saving the log of the measurements carried out on the VLF HV generator
(on page 86).
In order to remain in the measurement mode window, select the Cancel button.
Information on the evaluation of measurement results: Chapter Evaluating a parallel
measurement or Full MWT (on page 86)
