Coach Car Basics

Coupling the coach car to the locomotive and other cars

T
he locomotives and passenger cars covered by this manual are not equipped with the standard
Lionel O gauge couplers. Instead, they are equipped with more period-specific couplers that rep-
resent the prototypes.
The sound-equipped coach car has the link designed to couple to the locomotive's tender. The
other end of the sound-equipped coach car can then be coupled to additional passenger cars.

Coach car volume control and switch locations

T
he functions of the sound car's switches and volume control are outlined below. Refer to Figure
7 for the location of the switches and volume control. These instructions are specific
to this particular product; note that available features (and switches) may differ
from other locomotives and sound cars.
Program/Run Switch
Used to assign an ID# and reprogram the sound car in LEGACY and Command operation when
the switch is in the PGM position.
Note!
It is recommended to program the sound car using the same ID# as the locomotive. This
will allow for seamless operation.
Volume Control
The RailSounds volume control can be found on the underside of the sound car per Figure 7
below. Use a small screwdriver to adjust the volume as desired.
