Uncoupling your 21" Passenger Cars
Y
our 21" Passenger Cars are equipped with a Kinematic coupler system which allows the
couplers to extend when the train enters a curve. This provides a closer car spacing on
straight track.
To manually uncouple the cars, pull down on the small tab on the right side of the coupler.
You can also use a Remote Uncoupling Track (available separately, 6-65149 or 6-12746 for
O-27 gauge; 6-65530 for O gauge; or 6-12020 for FasTrack layouts) to uncouple your cars. Spot
the car with the uncoupling pad on the bottom of the coupler above your track magnet.

Installing scale couplers (optional)

To convert your passenger cars to scale couplers, first remove the kinematic coupler assembly.
Remove the four screws from the corners of the cover plate. Disconnect the coupler centering
spring from the truck bolster.
After removing the coupler, you will see mounting holes where the scale coupler adapters
(included with your car) can be installed. This pad will accept a standard O scale coupler box.
We recommend a Kadee
Note!
Your car will not be able to negotiate an O-54 curve with scale couplers. We rec-
ommend O-72 or greater.
