Unplug spark plug cable.

Clean spark plug area with pressurized
air before removing spark plug.
CAUTION Always wear safety
goggles when using pressurized air.
Unscrew spark plug completely using
a spark plug socket, then remove it.
Spark Plug Installation
Prior to installation make sure that con-
tact surface of cylinder head and spark
plug is free of grime.
Using a feeler gauge, set the spark plug
gap.
SPARK PLUG GAP
800, 1000 and
1000R
Apply a small amount of copper-based
anti-seize lubricant over spark plug
threads.
Screw spark plug into cylinder heads
by hand and tighten with a torque
wrench and a proper socket.
NOTICE
Do not overtighten spark
plugs, engine damage can occur.
TIGHTENING TORQUE
Spark plug (800
and 1000)
Spark plug (1000R)
0.8 mm to 0.9 mm
(.031 in to .035 in)
20 N•m ± 2.4 N•m
(15 lbf•ft ± 2 lbf•ft)
11 N•m (97 lbf•in)
