Minimal Hardware Connections

These instructions cover the hardware and connections needed to perform the recorder
operations described in the rest of this section and lab setup.
To perform the system power-up, you need the following hardware:
A 130-MC.
A personal computer; either a laptop, desktop (with SMCC), or other appropriate control interface,
including a dumb terminal.
An external power cable installed on the MC by an electrician.
Cables supplied per customer sales order and request:

Quick installation steps

1. Install the GPS to provide a clear view of the sky for the GPS
2. Route and attach the appropriate cable from your control interface (PC) to your 130-03 Serial port.
3. An electrician will need to secure the connector on your external power cable to the POWER
connections on the terminal block (TB1) in the 130-MC recorder (See "Power Terminals").
4. Connect one end of the GPS cable to the GPS.
5. Route and connect the senor cables to each terminal block on the RT588 board. Refer to the diagram
mounted on the door of the MC unit as a guide.
6. Route and connect the GPS cable to the GPS 232 connector on the RT590 board. Refer to the diagram
on the door for more help.
7. Route and connect the Ethernet cable to the NET connector on the 130-03.
8. Remove the well cap on the 130-03.
9. Install a newly formatted Compact Flash in either slot by holding (ONLY) onto the sides of the
Compact Flash and inserting into the well.
10. Power-up the unit.
The well LED should turn "Green" when the power is applied.
11. Configure the terminal or laptop for use with command line terminal mode (See the example
configuration file in Section 2.6) OR
12. Load and configure SMCC on the PC or desktop.
13. Verify communication from the laptop.
