3.2.12.PCUwithvehicleelectricalsystemassistancemeasure
OnvehicleswiththeequipmentElectricActiveRollStabilization,energyissuppliedbytheauxiliary
batteryintheenginecompartment.
Modernvehicleshaveahighenergyconsumptionduetothemanyelectricalconsumers.Asaresult,
thereisahighdemandonthebatteryparticularlyinphasesinwhichthecombustionengineisnot
runningandthealternatorsuppliesnoenergy(e.g.enginestart-stopphases).
Inordertoprotectthebattery,aDC/DCconverterisinstalledinthePowerControlUnit(PCU)andan
auxiliarybatteryisinstalledintheenginecompartment.
Thepreconditionsforthedirectionoftheenergymanagementarecalculatedfromtheuseofthe
vehicle.Whentheengineisrunningtheauxiliarybatteryischargedfromtheconventionalvehicle
electricalsystem.Duringthephasesinwhichthecombustionengineisnotrunning,e.g.automatic
enginestart-stopfunction,theconventionalvehicleelectricalsystemissuppliedbytheauxiliary
battery.
ThePowerControlUnit(PCU)isconnectedtothePT-CAN2andaDC/DCconverterwithapower
of500 W.
3.2.13.24VElectronicPowerSteering
Thehigherweight8-cylinderengineintheG12resultsinahigherfrontaxleload.Thisincreasesthe
effortthatisrequiredbythepowersteeringservo.Duetothesehighcurrents,itisnecessary
toincreasethevoltagesupplyoftheEPSto24 V.
Anauxiliarybattery,separatingelementandachargingunitfortheauxiliarybatteryarerequiredfor
this.ThesecomponentsareinstalledintheluggagecompartmentoftheG12.
ThechargingunitmonitorsthestateofchargeandchargestheauxiliarybatteryusingaDC/DC
converter.Itmonitorsalineshieldofthe24Vlineandvariousotherconditions.Thechargingunitalso
switchestherelayintheseparatingelement,whichintegratestheauxiliarybatteryinthecircuit.The
EPSissuppliedwith24Vonlyoncethisrelayhasbeenswitchedon.TheEPScanalsobeoperated
with12 Vintheeventofafault.
