Connecting
The default parameter settings are used for the pre-processor block.
It is possible to connect two REG670 IEDs in parallel to the REX060 injection unit in order to
obtain redundant measurement in the two IEDs. However, at commissioning, both IEDs must
be connected during the calibration procedure.
6.3

Making the optical connections

6.3.1

Connecting station communication interfaces

The numerical module (NUM) provides up to four Ethernet ports (one basic and three
optional), and the optical Ethernet module (OEM) provides two additional Ethernet ports.
These ports are used for IEC 61850 or DNP3 communication. The serial communication module
(SLM) provides four optical ports which are used for LON, SPA, IEC 60870-5-103 or DNP3
communication.
• Ports X301 to X304 on the NUM module and ports X3061 and X3062 on the OEM module
are used for IEC 61850-8-1 and IEC/UCA 61850-9-2LE communication. Ports X301/X302,
X303/X304 and X3061/X3062 are to be used in pairs for redundant communication. The
optical port connectors are of LC type and the galvanic connectors are of RJ45 type.
• Optical ports X311 A and B on the SLM module are used for SPA, IEC 60870-5-103 or DNP3
communication. The port connectors are of ST (glass) or HFBR Snap in (plastic) type.
• Optical ports X311 C and D (Tx, Rx) on the SLM module are used for LON communication.
The port connectors are of ST (glass) or HFBR Snap in (plastic) type.
Optical fibers have Transmission (Tx) and Reception (Rx) connectors, and they should be
attached to the Tx and Rx connectors on the SLM module (Tx cable to Rx connector, Rx cable to
Tx connector). Connectors are usually color coded: connect blue or dark grey cable connectors
to blue or dark grey (receive) back-side connectors. Connect black or grey cable connectors to
black or grey (transmit) back-side connectors.

It is important that REX060, REX061 and REX062 chassis are solidly earthed.
Protective earth is a separate 4 mm screw terminal that is a part of the metallic
chassis.
Avoid touching the enclosure of the coupling capacitor REX061 unit and the
shunt resistor REX062 unit. The surface may be hot during normal operation.
The temperature can rise 50°C in REX061 and 65°C in REX062 above the
ambient temperature.
Fiber-optical cables are very sensitive to handling. Do not bend too sharply. The
minimum curvature radius is 15 cm for plastic fiber cables and 25 cm for glass
fiber cables. If cable straps are used to fix the cables, apply them with a loose
fit.
Always hold the connector, never the cable, when connecting or disconnecting
optical fibers. Do not twist, pull or bend the fiber. Invisible damage may
increase fiber attenuation making communication impossible.
RJ45 LAN ports of the IED are PELV or SELV circuits.
The connected remote circuit must be PELV or SELV circuits.
