5
2:2014  : Level 1 protectors shall have an average peak force below 18kN and each single strike shall
not exceed 24kN Level 2 protectors shall have an average peak force below 9kN. and each single
strike shall not exceed 12kN.
The EN 1621-1 (shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, leg) standard provides 2 Levels of protection: Level 1

and Level 2. Level 1 protectors shall have an overall mean value below 35kN, each single strike shall
not exceed 35kN in the area I, and 50kN in the area II and III. Level 2 protectors shall have an overall

Level 2 protectors offer higher performance than Level 1 protectors.
Level 2 protectors offer the highest Level specified by the CE standard. Due to the extra Level of
protection Level 2 protectors may be heavier, thicker and less ergonomic than the Level 1 protectors.
It is up to the responsibility of the rider to choose the correct Level of protection according to their
needs, their experience, their performance and skills.

PROTECTION LOCATION
BACK PROTECTOR AND CHEST POSITIONING
For a protector to work properly, it must cover the protected area correctly. The gar-
ment must be the correct size, chosen from the manufacturer's size chart. All SCOTT's
protectors are designed to stay firmly in contact with the body.
To obtain maximum adherence to the protected area the protector must be worn
under tear proof clothing. Belts, straps or elastic bands (see drawing below) should be
fastened tightly to guarantee stability of the garment during use without being uncom-
fortable for the user. Check the entire closure system, including gripping bands and the
correct placement of the vest before use. Wear, dirt or any kind of damage may com-
