The operat ing program s and font s for t he print er are st ored in Flash m em ory on t he Main PCB. When program
updat es and/ or new feat ures are added, t hey can be downloaded t o t he print er as follows:
1.
I dent ify t he new version for your m odel of print er from t he Dat am ax- O'Neil FTP sit e at ft p.dat am ax-
oneil.com and download it ont o your com put er's hard drive or a floppy disk.
2.
Ensure t hat t he print er is connect ed t o t he host and t hat t he power is ON. Using t he DOS copy com m and,
ent er:
copy filename.zg lpt1/b
Ot her program s ( e.g., hyper- t erm inal and cert ain Windows Driver program s) m ay also be used t o download
t his file.
3.
The Green LED will flash during t he download.
4.
Follow in g a su cce ssfu l dow n loa d, t he print er w ill reset . The previous print er set up w ill be unaffect ed
unless subst ant ial firm ware dat a st ruct ure changes have occurred. Print a Dat abase Configurat ion Label t o
verify your new firm ware version.
Follow in g a n u n su cce ssfu l dow n loa d, t he RED LED w ill t urn on, t hen t he print er w ill reset . The original
firm ware will rem ain operat ional. I f t he print er fails t o reset , cycle power OFF and ON.
Try re- sending t he file t o t he print er. I f t he failure cont inues, check t he following possible causes:
An invalid or corrupt ed file is being downloaded - Ensure t he file being downloaded is correct and
applicable for your print er m odel.
Possible com m unicat ions error - Check t he cable connect ion bet ween t he host and print er and
ensure t hat a qualit y, shielded cable is used.
Possible Flash m em ory problem - Call for service.
