(4) Remove the oil drain plug (Figure 2).
(5) Connect oil drain hose if available.
(6) Allow a few ounces of oil to drain and collect an oil sample. Refer to the "Oil Sample
Collection" procedure.

NOTICE: During the first three oil changes on a new, rebuilt, or overhauled engine, collect
1 to 2 oz. (30 to 60 ml) of oil while the oil drains. Use a sampling tube, funnel,
and sample vial that is clean and free of any particulate, debris, foreign material
or residue. Do not take an oil sample from the bottom of the oil sump since it
may give false-positive readings.
(1) After 1/3 of the oil has been drained from the engine's oil sump, collect 1 to 2 oz. (30 to
60 ml) of oil into the clean sample vial.
(2) Identify the oil sample vial with a mark or label.
(3) Send the oil sample in the vial to the same laboratory (that has been used in the past) for
spectrographical analysis to compare past results and identify a wear trend pattern.
Let the remainder of the oil drain from the engine.

Dispose of the oil in the container in accordance with environmental safety laws.

Remove the suction screen from the oil sump. Refer to the "Oil Suction Screen

Install the oil drain plug with a 135° angle of turn for the copper gasket. Torque the oil drain

plug as per the torque values in the latest revision of the Service Table of Limits - SSP-1776.
