    INTRODUCTION The Glencoe® SF4500 Soil Finisher® is a seedbed preparation tillage tool. It is designed for secondary tillage in previously tilled soil such as plowed or coulter chiseled ground. This manual provides suggested operating techniques to help you obtain efficient and dependable service from your new machine.

    OPERATION TRACTOR PREPARATION Prior to attaching the implement the tractor should be prepared as follows: • Tractor tires should be inflated and ballast added according to the tractor operator’s manual. • The tractor drawbar should be locked in the center position for road transport. For field operation the drawbar must be free to swing.

  • Page 14 OPERATION continued from previous page To level the wings with the main frame remove the wrench provided from storage on the hitch. Loosen the locking nut on the lower end of the turnbuckle. Close the turnbuckle to raise the wing and open the turnbuckle to lower the wing.
  • Page 15 OPERATION Adjustments Important: The wheel cylinders should be completely closed when the machine is at the desired operating depth. Check depth of tillage and frame level by pulling the unit in the ground a few feet and then stop. Leave the unit in the ground.

    OPERATION FIELD OPERATION OPTIONAL ATTACHMENTS 5 Bar and 8 Bar Spike Tooth Harrows The tooth angle is preset and cannot be changed. All harrow adjustments are made by adjusting the length of the tow chains. For maximum leveling and clod breaking, adjust the tow chains to allow the entire harrow to pull level with the ground.
  • Page 17 OPERATION Rolling Reels The rolling reels main function is to level the soil and break clods. The reels will bring clods and residue to the surface. Rolling reel depth should not exceed 3" - 4". Do not operate deeper than the shanks. Depth of operation is adjusted by changing the downward force of the reels.

    TRANSPORT & STORAGE Transport Chain When transporting the implement on public roadways, use a transport chain with tensile strength equal to the gross weight of the implement. This will control the implement in the event the hitch pin is lost or breaks. After attaching the transport chain, check for proper adjustment by driving a short distance and turning to the left and right.

Each of these series cylinders are equipped with a bypass port located at the rod end of the cylinder.

    HYDRAULICS TIGHTENING STRAIGHT THREAD FITTINGS The straight thread hydraulic fittings require precise tightening. Over-tightening of the hydraulic fittings will ruin the sealing surfaces and will require the replacement of the damaged parts. Do not use any teflon tape or thread sealant on any JIC fittings or in o-ring port cylinders. Proper initial tightening procedure depends on the mating parts being connected.
