OPERATION TRACTOR PREPARATION Prior to attaching the implement the tractor should be prepared as follows: • Tractor tires should be inflated and ballast added according to the tractor operator’s manual. • The tractor drawbar should be locked in the center position for road transport. For field operation the drawbar must be free to swing.

  • Page 17: Automatic Transport Lock, Hitch Adjustments

OPERATION AUTOMATIC TRANSPORT LOCK The cylinder lock is controlled by the rod located in the rear of the center frame section. It can be located in two positions, work and transport. When the control rod is pushed rearward, the cylinder can be cycled without the transport ear coming in contact with the lock link.
  • Page 18: Adjusting Weight Transfer

OPERATION ADJUSTING WEIGHT TRANSFER The UM43 features a unique weight transfer system. For ordinary soil conditions, no adjustment of the weight transfer system is required. (Level the machine, see page 13.) The purpose of the weight transfer system is to help control the soil build-up in front of the rollers.
  • Page 19: Rollers And Scrapers

OPERATION ROLLERS For maximum roller life, the rollers need to touch each other across the gangs. This adjustment is made by loosening the u-bolts which attach the bearing standards. The bearing lock collars must also be loosened. Bump the standard and the u-bolt toward the center of the machine until the rollers touch each other.
  • Page 20: Spring Tine Depth Adjustment And Retainer Placement

OPERATION SPRING TINE DEPTH ADJUSTMENT The operator controls the depth of the spring tines by the use of the transport cylinder. When the transport wheels lower the machine to the ground, the work position begins (rollers only). As the transport cylinder retracts, the transport wheels continue to raise and the tines plunge deeper into the soil.
  • Page 21: Spring Tine Rotational Adjustment

OPERATION SPRING TINE ROTATIONAL ADJUSTMENT The front and rear tine bar assemblies are normally set so that rotation and penetration are the same. However, the tooth depth linkage can be adjusted so that the rear teeth will work shallower than the front teeth.
  • Page 22 OPERATION SPRING TINES Looped C-Tine The unique looped C-Tine is a rugged, penetrating tine designed to run at depths up to 6". These tines roll and mix the soil. The looped C-Tine is particularly effective in dry soil conditions, as the rolling action brings moisture to the surface.
