The interfaces differ with regard to the voltage level used and to their construction; the RS-232-C interface is suitable for point-to-point connections up to 20m, the RS-422/485 is appropriate for point-to-point connections over longer distances up to 1200m and for bus...
  • Page 117 Interfaces RS-232-C / RS-422/485 serial interfaces Data transmission is computer-controlled with the X-ON (DC1) and X-OFF (DC3) software handshake or with the RTS and CTS hardware handshake. If the computer is ready to receive data, it issues the X-ON (DC1) control character. If it cannot receive any data, e.g. if there is no free memory space, the X-OFF (DC3) control character is issued.
  • Page 118 Interfaces RS-422/485 bus 2.1.1 RS-422/485 bus This 4-wire bus enables up to 32 devices to be connected. In contrast to the RS-232-C interface, only one computer interface is required for the connection of several devices. The bus explained in this section is an extended version of the RS-422 interface that - contrary to the RS-422 - enables several transmitters to be used.

For this reason, HBM has used the 24-pin Amphenol plug on the IE01 function card. This bus enables max. 15 devices to be interconnected in parallel to form a system.
