Three Phase: NEMA design B with Class F insulation.
Suitable for operation in liquids with a maximum temperature
of 60°C (140°F).
Check rotation before installing pump in sump. Cutter should
rotate counterclockwise when viewed from the bottom (suc-
tion side) of pump. If not, reverse any two leads to motor to
reverse direction of rotation.
All Motors: See motor nameplate for voltage, Hertz, phase,
and full load current. Make sure that power supply is the cor-
rect voltage and adequate to start and run pump. To be sure
that wiring is correct, test run pump briefly before installing
in sump. Oil-filled seal plate will protect shaft seals for a
brief dry run which can save much troubleshooting time later
if there is a problem with the installation. See Table I, Page
2, for electrical data summary.

OPERATION

Hazardous voltage and hazardous
cutter. Disconnect electrical power
and keep hands away from pump
inlet opening when working on or
handling pump for any reason. Do
not use automatic reset controls
with this pump. Accidental rotation
of the cutter with hands in the cutter
area can cause loss of fingers.
Lubrication: The motor bearings of oil filled models are
lubricated by oil in the motor. The motor bearings of air-filled
models are of the sealed type. The motor is equipped with
two independent shaft seals with an oil filled reservoir
between them for seal lubrication.
SG12/SG13 Series: Not equipped with thermostats or leak
sensor probe. Check the seal condition quarterly in heavy
duty service or annually in light duty service.
SGC12/SGC13 Series: To eliminate unnecessary removal
of the pump from the sump for routine seal inspection, moni-
tor the seal condition via the leak detection circuit.
NOTICE: Failure to monitor the seal condition voids warran-
ty. Motors damaged by flooding due to seal or O-Ring failure
are not covered under warranty.
Grinder Assembly: The grinder unit consists of a cutter
rotating inside a stationary cutter ring. Persistent jamming
and clogging of the pump indicates dull or worn grinder
parts. If the cutter ring is dull, reverse it to renew the cutting
edges. If the cutter ring is worn from abrasives, replace it.
NOTICE: Normal domestic sewage will cause very little
dulling or wear of the grinder parts. However, pumping abra-
sives (such as fine sand) or fabrics (such as articles of
clothing) will greatly increase wear and tear on the grinder
and may make it necessary to replace the grinder assembly
frequently.

MAINTENANCE

The Key numbers given in these procedures refer to the
exploded views. See page 8 for SG12/SGC12/
SG13/SGC13 and page 10 for SGC20.

Pump Removal:

1. After the basin cover is removed and the necessary dis-
charge piping disconnected, lift the pump from the
basin.
2. Place the pump in a suitable area where it can be
cleaned thoroughly.
3. Remove all scale and deposits from the pump.
4. Submerge the complete pump in a disinfectant
solution (chlorox or chlorine) for at least an hour
before disassembly.
NOTICE: SG12/SGC12/SG13/SGC13 Series – Replace
motor oil with new oil whenever the motor housing is
opened for service.
1. Follow instructions under "Pump Removal''.
2. After removal and disinfecting, lay pump on its side and
remove drain plug from seal plate. Drain oil from oil filled
motors. (If oil is not contaminated, it may be reused.)
3. Remove six cap screws (Key No. 33, SG12/SGC12/
SG13/SGC13; Key No. 1, SGC20) securing the volute
(Key No. 32) to the seal plate (Key No. 20) and remove
the volute.
4. Inspect the cutter, cutter ring, impeller, and volute (Key
Nos. 29, 34, 28, and 32) for wear. Replace any worn
parts.
7
Hazardous voltage and hazardous
cutter. Before removing pump from
basin for service, always discon-
nect electrical power to pump and
control switch. Always keep hands
and other body parts away from
grinder assembly in pump suction.
Grinder Disassembly:
Hazardous voltage and hazardous
cutter. Before removing pump
from basin for service, always
disconnect electrical power to
pump and control switch. Always
keep hands and other body parts
away from grinder assembly in
pump suction.
