Replacing the Sensitive element

ACTION
Confirm that the value of each
repeater synchronizes with the
displayed true bearing on the
Operator panel.
Confirm that the displayed latitude
and speed are according to the
vessel's actual latitude and speed.
Check connectors
Tighten fastening screws
Clean panels and cabinet
Clean slip rings and brushes. Lightly
apply "WD40 oil".
Replace sensitive element
The Sensitive element should only be replaced by authorized Simrad
personnel.
A special tool is required when installing the Sensitive element. This tool is
optional and must be ordered from Simrad (part no. 44174449).

Mechanical installation

Use extreme caution when handling the Sensitive element! Do not tilt
the element. It is filled with oil and the top includes a ventilation
opening.

Ensure that the power is disconnected from the Control unit.

Remove the 4 screws securing the compass case, and carefully lift
the case upwards and away.

MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) is
35000 hours (4 years).
On vessels in critical operations we
recommend 4-5 years.
