LOTUS CARS POLICY ON TRACK AND
COMPETITIVE USE
To help ensure your complete satisfaction with the vehicle, we
would like to clarify Lotus' policies regarding:
- the use of our cars on track, and
- the use of our cars in racing or other competitive events.
In particular, we would like to explain the effect of such usage
on the Limited Warranty and on required maintenance. Please
also refer to the Limited Warranty statement in your Owner's
Handbook.
Track Use
Lotus models are designed as road going sports cars. It is rec-
ognised that owners may wish to use their car occasionally on
closed circuits or private test tracks in order to experience the
car's full range of dynamic capabilities, and indeed the specifica-
tion of some models has been optimised for just such activities.
This type of usage must be accompanied by appropriate driver
training and vehicle preparation by a qualified specialist, in order
to maintain a suitable level of safety. Lotus is pleased to maintain
vehicle warranty coverage for any reasonable use in this man-
ner. For vehicle preparation, a 'Pre-Track Session Check List'
is available under part number LSL520b.
Competitive Use
Lotus' Limited Warranty cover does not apply however, if the car
is raced or driven in a competitive or abusive manner. These
terms encompass, but are not limited to, 'head-to-head' races,
timed runs or laps, (which may be regarded as 'racing against
the clock'), wheelspinning or high rpm starts, gearchanging
without correct use of the clutch, engine overspeeding through
erroneous or premature gear selection, excessive and extended
use of full throttle and/or peak rpm, and running over trackside
rumble strips or kerbing. Such treatment will entail a greater
degree of wear and tear, and the effects of increased stress
on parts and components will not be covered by the Limited
Warranty. Note also that Variable Launch Control, which is an
option on some models, is a competition feature, and as such,
its utilisation and any effects thereof, will not be covered under
the Limited Warranty.
