Step #11
Apply a thin line of cement along the
bottom of the leg, and along the back
edge, where the leg will meet the wall.
Carefully lower the leg into position en-
suring that it is firmly bedded on the
hearth and against the wall, along the pen-
cil mark that you have previously made.
Take extra care to not get the cement all
over the wall, as this will make the clean-
up much harder. Repeat with other leg.
Important: Make sure you do not step on
the hearth, as this will leave marks, and
will possibly cause it to lose level!

Proceeding with the dryfit– carefully
slide the beam into place on top of the
legs. Lower this gently! Dropping it into
place, even from a short distance, risks
chipping.
Check the fit, and position the legs
carefully to insure that they are plumb
with the sides of the beam. Make a small
pencil mark against the chase face that
indicates where the outside of the legs
rest, and then carefully dismantle the
beam, slips and legs.
This image is looking down inside the
leg. Take one of the wooden

the
carefully insert it between the block on
the inside top of the leg and the bracket.
This will help hold the leg against the
wall. Any extra cement can easily be
wiped off with a wet cloth.
There is a place for a second shim at
the bottom of the legs. Installing the sec-
ond shim may be done by reaching in
from the front bottom of the leg. This is
only necessary where the wall is ex-
tremely out of vertical. Please use your
own discretion in placing the second
shim.
