Troubleshooting

LCD Messages

The following messages are displayed in the LCD when the machine is performing a function or encounters an
error.
This section describes messages related to fax functions. For other messages, → Reference Guide.
• The error code appears in the ACTIVITY REPORT. (→ p. 7-2)

ECM RX
Cause
The machine is waiting to redial the other
party's number because the line was busy
or the other party did not answer when
you tried to send the document.
The telephone number you dialed is busy.
The fax number dialed was incorrect.
The other party's fax machine is not
working.
The other party is not using a G3
machine.
The touch tone/rotary pulse setting on
your machine is incorrect.
The receiving fax machine did not answer
within 55 seconds (after all automatic
redialing attempts).
The document is longer than 1 meter.
The machine is receiving a fax using
Error Correction Mode (ECM).
Action
Wait for the machine to automatically
redial the number. If you want to cancel
automatic redialing, wait until the
machine starts dialing the number, press
Stop/Reset then T. (→ p. 4-10)
Try sending the document at a later time.
Check the fax number and dial again.
Contact the other party and have them
check their fax machine.
Contact the other party and ask them to
send or receive the document using a G3
machine.
Set your machine to the setting that
matches your telephone line. (→ p. 2-6)
Contact the other party and have them
check their fax machine. You can try to
send the document using manual sending
(→ p. 4-8). For an overseas call, add
pauses to the registered number. (→ p. 6-
1)
Reduce the length of the document to
within 39.4 inches (1 meter), and then re-
send it.
ECM receptions may take longer than
normal receptions. Turn off ECM if you
need to receive quickly, or if you know
your local lines are in good condition. (→
ECM RX, p. 9-6)
