Connecting PMC Network Interface Cards
Fiber-Optic Gigabit Ethernet NIC Connectors and
Cables
To connect the fiber-optic Gigabit Ethernet NIC to other network components,
use a multimode, fiber-optic cable with an LC connector for each NIC
interface. You can use either 50 or 62.5 micron cable; 50 micron-type cable
provides longer transmission length. The destination end of the cable can be
either LC or SC, depending on the type of connector required for the
destination Gigabit Ethernet device. You can also use a half-duplex LC-to-LC
cable to loop back the transmit port of an interface to the receiver port. LC and
SC define the fiber-optic connector types; LC connectors are smaller than SC
connectors.
An LC-to-SC cable is included with single-port fiber-optic Gigabit Ethernet
NICs, and two LC-to-SC cables are included with two-port fiber-optic Gigabit
Ethernet NICs. You can order additional cables from a cable vendor of your
choice.
Caution
Cables that connect to the Gigabit Ethernet NIC must be IEEE
802.3z compliant to prevent potential data loss.
