Field Coil
1 . Check the field coil fo r open c i r ­
cuit using a circuit tester.
Connect
one test prod
field coil lead and the other prod
onto the other field coil lead.
If the tester needle does not m o v e ,
the field coil has an open circuit.
R ep a ir o r replace the field coil.
2. Check
the field coil fo r ground.
Connect
one
field
coil lead and the other lead
on the y o k e .

Magnetic Switch
T h e
following
magnetic switch tests
described in paragraphs 1 through 3
should be perform ed with the condition
that the
starter
with the specified voltage application.
In testing,
disconnect the field coil
lead from
the magnetic switch t e r ­
minal 1 1 F M .
1. T e s t the pull-in coil motion of the
magnetic switch.
Connect
the test leads
"50" terminal and the " F " termi­
nal as shown in figure 9-15.
