T est
condition, connect the battery ne­
gative lead onto the magnetic switch
b o d y .
Next,
disconnect the test lead of
the battery negative side from the
1 1 F n terminal.
T h e
plunger
and
held
in this position with 8
vo lts.
If held, the holding coil is satis­
factory .

3. Check
the plunger return motion
by connecting the battery positive
lead
onto the " F " terminal, and
the negative lead onto the magnetic
switch b o d y .
A ft e r pulling out the pinion until it
reaches
to the pinion stop collar
with
the hand, relea se the hand
from the pinion.
A t this time, if the plunger returns
with 12 volts, the magnetic switch
is satisfactory.

4. Inspect the length of the magnetic
switch moving stud.
T h e length is approximately 34 mm
(1 . 3 4 " ) from the installation su r­
face of the magnetic switch to the
extreme
joint hook.
If n e c e s s a r y ,
stud
length by loosening the lock
nut to obtain the c o r r e c t position
of the pinion travel as shown in
figure 9-18.

1. Inspect the brush holder fo r insu­
lation using a circuit tester.
Connect
positive
side
onto the negative side brush holder.
If the tester
brush holder insulator is defective,
and should be repaired o r replaced
