STEERING
Removal Notes
• Remove the steering valve. (See "Steering Valve" on
page 7-7.)
• Disconnect the tilt cable (11) from the gas spring
release brackets (17).
Installation Notes
Required Materials
®
Loctite
243 Medium-Strength, Oil-Resistant Thread
Locker
• Install the steering tower by reversing the order of
removal.
®
• Apply Loctite
243 medium-strength, oil-resistant
thread locker to the threads of the 3/4-10 thin hex
nuts (20) before installing. Adjust nuts (20) to
eliminate side play between the washers (19) and the
steering unit pivot bracket (2). DO NOT overtighten
the nuts; the steering unit pivot bracket (2) must be
free to rotate.

Steering Cylinder

Removal and Installation
See Figures 7-10 through 7-13.
1. Park the mower safely. (See "Park Mower Safely" on
page 1-7.)

2. Turn the wheel slightly to allow the screw (2) securing
the rod end of the steering cylinder (4) to align with
the hole (1) in the wheel pivot weldment.
3. Remove nut (5) and lock washer (6) from screw (2).

NOTE
Record the location of washers before removing to
ensure correct installation.
4. Remove screw (2) and four flat washers (3) from the
rear wheel support (7) and the rod end of the
steering cylinder (4).

NOTES
• Label all hydraulic hoses and record their location to
ensure correct installation.
• Plug hydraulic hoses after disconnecting to prevent
loss of hydraulic oil.
5. Disconnect hydraulic hoses (9 and 10) from steering
cylinder (8).
6. Support the steering cylinder (8).
7. Bend the tab washers (12 and 14) away from the
screws (11 and 13) and remove the screws.
8. Remove the steering cylinder (8) from the wheel pivot
weldment.
