5. OPERATION
When the system is charged and the pipeline begins to fill, the water flowing in the pipeline enters into the
combination air valve, raising the air/ vacuum and air release float to its sealing position.
During filling, air is discharged mainly through the air/ vacuum orifice as well as small amounts of air released
through the air release orifice. As the pipeline becomes fully pressurized, the air/ vacuum orifice will seal and
entrapped air will then be automatically released only from the air release orifice.
During pipe draining or water column separation, the floats will drop down due to the vacuum created, and air will
enter into the pipeline through the air/ vacuum orifice.

6. TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM
Discharge Outlet is broken.
Outlet thread size needed
in order to attach a vent/
drain pipe
Valve spits water.
Valve is continuously
leaking.
Valve leaks from threads.
REASON
Valve was hit or mishandled.
End user needs to connect a
vent/drain pipe from the
discharge outlet.
This is normal at start up
and during pressure test.
Could be debris stuck to the
sealing mechanism.
Line pressure issues
(inadequate pressure) or
debris lodged in seal or O-
ring.
Damaged O-ring
Plastic threads stripped.
SOLUTION
Easy to replace: gently pry off the outlet with screwdriver
Pressure insert the replacement part using a plastic
hammer. Replacement part can be ordered from A.R.I.
Note: The part is not mandatory for the function of the
valve.
1" D-040 has 3/8" female thread.
2" D-040 has 1¼" female thread.
End of pipe must be left open in order for valve to
function.
Perform steps for
BASIC MAINTENANCE
Check line pressure. It needs at least 0.2bar (3psi) to seal
tight.
Is the valve on a booster pump? Can be an installation
issue if the valve is level with the water level in a tank -
there is no pressure to seal.
Perform steps for
BASIC MAINTENANCE
Replace the Base O-ring
Check for cross-threading. Replace Base.
Offer to replace with a metal Base.
