All electro permanent magnetic chucks/electromagnetic chucks have areas with a lower magnetic force due to their
design.
Approx. 10 mm on the long sides and in accordance with the magnetically active length on the short sides.
Please note the information in the SAV catalogue.
For full coverage with small parts, these zones must be avoided.

Special specification 245.99:
Holding force
All precision sine tables with electro permanent magnetic chuck/electromagnetic chuck have a magnetically active
area. The holding force is therefore only present within the area provided by the brass pole pitch. Please also note
the catalogue documents, web pages and the Appendix.
The stated holding force per workpiece area refers to a test workpiece with 100 x 100 x 40 mm made of steel
1.0037 with polished surface. If the application involves other conditions, the achievable holding forces may be
reduced substantially.

3.1.1

Rated holding force, displacement force and pole pitch

Holding and displacement forces in magnet technology
Pole pitch, shape of the workpiece, surface quality and material have a great influence on the holding and dis-
placement force of a workpiece.
a) The holding force is the pull-off force of a chucked workpiece perpendicular to the chucking surface.
b) The displacement force is the force required for displacing a workpiece parallel to the chucking surface. The
displacement force is approx. 15 to 30 % of the holding force depending on the surface quality. It depends on
surface roughness and adhesion.
