Dubbing

Before starting dubbing

You can dub (copy or move) recorded contents from the HDD to a DVD-RAM disc and vice versa.
The following contains information and notes about dubbing. Read carefully before dubbing.
Dubbing operations
This recorder has 3 dubbing functions.
Note that copy protection restriction has top priority in
any dubbing.
• High Speed Dubbing
You can copy the contents of the HDD to a DVD-RAM
disc or vice versa, without changing the picture and
sound quality.
"High Speed" means the dubbing time is shorter than
the actual time of the content.
• Rate Conversion Dubbing
You can copy the contents of the HDD to a disc or vice
versa, reducing the data size, The picture and sound
quality will be less than that which was originally
recorded.
• Line-U Dubbing
You can play pictures recorded on the HDD, and copy
them to a disc at the same time.
Example of each of the functions:
• You have recorded on the HDD at a high rate
(Manual), or the recording duration is very long.
The data size is so large that it cannot be recorded
on a DVD-RAM disc.
Reduce the data size using the Rate Conversion
Dubbing function so that the DVD-RAM disc can hold
all of the program data.
• A DVD-RAM disc has been recorded with the other
equipment, and you want to copy/move a title to a
DVD-R disc.
Set "DVD-R Broadcast Record" to "Main" or "SAP".
Use the Rate Conversion Dubbing function to record
contents to the HDD, and then create DVD-R.
• You want to copy/move contents of a DVD-R disc to
your HDD while viewing playback.
Record the disc contents to the HDD using the
Line-U Dubbing function.
• You want to copy/move to the HDD at high speed
without changing the data size (the DVD-RAM disc
has enough remaining capacity).
Use the High Speed Dubbing function.
Although all dubbing is performed without converting the
digital signals to analog, sound and picture quality may
deteriorate in case of Rate Conversion Dubbing and
Line-U Dubbing functions. Also, the picture and sound
are not improved if content recorded at low rate is re-
recorded at high rate.

"Copy" and "Move"
"Dubbing" appearing in Owner's Manuals are defined in
two ways:
Copy: The original program remains after the operation
is completed.
Move: The moved program will be erased from the
original location after the operation is completed.
Whether or not you select either command depends
entirely on the given situation. The command may be
predetermined in some situations.
You cannot "move" contents in the following situations.
(Instead, you will want to "copy" them.)
• The content is protected (
• A specified portion of the title (chapter) is copy-
protected, in which case, you cannot move from DVD-
RAM to the HDD.
• You cannot move a Playlist. (
copying is permitted. When you copy a Playlist to a
disc, it will be treated an Original on the disc. The
Playlist on the HDD does not change to an Original.
Also, you cannot "move" or "copy" contents in the
following situations:
• The recorded content contains a program that permits
a single copy only.
• The title (Playlist) contains a portion that prohibits
copying. Edit the title from the Original and create a
new Playlist.
