Safet y and St andards
All syst em com ponent s m ust be connect ed t o ground. Elect rical safet y is
provided t hrough a low- resist ance eart h ground connect ion. ( Prot ect ive
Class 1 according st andard EN/ I EC 618005- 1.) Mot or should be connect ed
t o prot ect ive eart h by independent eart hing conduct or rat ed not less t han
t he m ot or wire. This product cont ains st at ic sensit ive com ponent s t hat can
be dam aged by incorrect handling. Avoid cont act wit h high insulat ing
m at erials ( art ificial fabrics, plast ic film , et c.) . Place t he product on a
conduct ive surface. Ground yourself ( discharge any possible st at ic elect ricit y
build-up) by t ouching an unpaint ed, m et al, grounded surface.
Keep all covers and cabinet doors shut during operat ion. Ot herwise,
pot ent ial hazards m ay cause personal inj ury and/ or dam age t o equipm ent .
During operat ion t he product has elect rically charged com ponent s and hot
surfaces. The heat sink can reach t em perat ures of 90° C. Cont rol and power
cables can carry a high volt age, even when t he m ot or is not rot at ing.
To avoid elect ric arcing and hazards t o personnel and elect ric cont act s,
never disconnect or connect t he product while t he power source is
energized.
Aft er rem oving t he power source from t he equipm ent , wait at least
5 m inut es before t ouching or disconnect ing sect ions of t he equipm ent t hat
norm ally carry elect rical charges ( e.g., capacit ors, cont act s, screwed
connect ions) . For safet y, m easure t he elect rical cont act point s wit h a m et er
before t ouching t he equipm ent . Wait unt il t he volt age drops below 30 VAC
before handling com ponent s.
Provide a power m ains disconnect device in according wit h local regulat ions.
Before t est ing and set t ing up, t he m anufact urer of t he m achine m ust
generat e a hazard analysis for t he m achine, and t ake appropriat e m easures
t o ensure t hat unforeseen m ovem ent s cannot cause inj ury or dam age t o any

Since t he drive m eet s I P20 according t o I EC 60529, and t ype 1 according t o
UL 50, t he end user m ust select an enclosure t hat perm it s safe operat ion of
t he drive. The enclosure m ust m eet at least I P54 according t o I EC 60529,
and at least t ype 2 according t o UL 50, and be m ade of m et al or m at erial
wit h rat ing flam m abilit y of 5 VA, and not have any openings in t he bot t om .
Since t he leakage current t o PE is great er t han 3.5 m A, com pliance wit h
I EC61800- 5-1 and UL 508C requires eit her doubling of t he PE connect ion
( by one grounding connect ion t hrough t he m ains power cable eart hing wire,
and anot her connect ion t hrough t he heat sink connect ion t o t he grounded
m achine base) , or t he use of a copper connect ing cable wit h a cross- sect ion
great er t han10 m m ² . Use t he drive m ount screws and t he PE connect ion
screws t o m eet t his requirem ent .
Wiring of green color wit h or wit hout one or m ore yellow st ripes m ust not be
used except for prot ect ive bonding.
Power cables should be rat ed at least 600V, 75° C.
The STO input is funct ional in all CDHD m odels but not yet independent ly
cert ified in cert ain m odels. Refer t o t he CDHD Funct ional Safet y Reference
Manual.
Drives wit h a suspended load m ust have an addit ional m echanical safet y
block (such as a m ot or-holding brake) . The drive cannot hold t he load when
STO is act ive. Serious injury could result if t he load is not properly
safeguarded.
