When in BASIC or when running a C64 or VIC 20 program, the keyboard faithfully
reproduces the functionality of the original computer keyboard for that program.

KEYBOARD PRINCIPLES

THEC64 keyboard is similar to a modern computer keyboard, but it has some special
keys that let THEC64 do very specific tasks in BASIC when running as a C64 or
VIC 20 computer.
RETURN
RETURN
The
key tells the computer to look at what you typed and put this
information in memory. The
Note: Computer memory is where the computer stores all the information it needs to
recall whilst THEC64 is switched on. You can save the current memory state by using
the Save/load state functionality from the MENU option, explained later.
SHIFT
SHIFT
The
key works like the shift key on a regular keyboard: it lets you type capital
letters or the top characters on double-character keys to the screen.
Note that in BASIC, THEC64 defaults to the upper case/graphic mode as BASIC
expects all keywords to be in capitals.
A single quick press and release of the power switch on the
side of THEC64 case will display or close the MENU when in
BASIC or running a program. If you press and hold the switch
for two seconds before releasing, THEC64 will shut down.
See CHAPTER 7 for further details on all of the options and
settings on THEC64.
RETURN
key also moves the cursor to the next line.
