8.1 DAB / DAB+ radio

8.1.1. What is DAB?

DAB is a new digital format that delivers crystal-clear sound in CD quality. So even if you're in
the car or on the train, you can still enjoy good, noiseless reception. DAB broadcast uses a high-
speed datastream in the radio channel. In contrast with conventional analogue radio stations,
with DAB a number of stations are transmitting on the one and the same frequency. This is
referred to as an ensemble or multiplex. An ensemble consists of the radio station as well as a
number of service component or data services which are sent individually by the radio stations.
