10. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

In a properly wired and installed safety system, the safety interface module (SIM) will initiate a
control reliable stop command when edge sensor is actuated or has an internal open or shorted
connection. If you suspect there is a problem with an edge sensor, follow the appropriate
procedure below to track down a faulty condition.
All testing can be done with a digital multimeter. Before testing an edge sensor or
sensors, disconnect all interconnecting/lead wires from other edges or systems, so
that the edge is completely electrically isolated from external sources of
shorts/impedances.

10.1 Edge sensor with Two - 2-Conductor Leads

Using a digital multimeter, verify for the following conductor/edge actuation combinations, that the
point-to-point resistance measurements are within stated limits:
Pairs to Test
Black to Black
or
Ribbed to Ribbed
White to White
or
Smooth to Smooth
Black to White
or
Ribbed to Smooth

Any measurement beyond the limits specified under "Proper Measured Result" indicates that the
edge is defective. If this is an unmodified edge, please contact Tapeswitch for assistance.
