6.2.4 Installation Procedure and considerations:

Step 1 - Secure mounting channel of edge sensor onto your chosen surface. Each of the
Tapeswitch edge sensors are available with a variety of options (must be defined at the time of
purchase).
Note: It is imperative that edge sensors be affixed in such a way as to make it impossible
for someone, other than an authorized maintenance person, to adjust or remove. It is
recommended that the installers use tamper-proof hardware to discourage any
manipulation of the sensor. For multi edge configurations, sensors must be used in series
to maintain safety reliability.
Step 2 - If the sensor was removed from the channel for mounting, replace edge sensor now.
Edge sensors can be easily replaced (into its channel) by using the techniques described in
manual above.
Note: If the edge was mounted without removing from the channel, please skip to Step 3.
Step 3 - Route the cable(s) to the control unit. The cable(s) should exit from the edging as close
to the control unit position as possible. The cables should be protected in suitable conduit
between the exit of the edge sensor and the control unit. It is the installer's responsibility to be
sure all cables are secured and protected from damage during normal use and meets all local
electrical codes.

7. COMMISSIONING CHECKS

The commissioning checks should be carried out by trained competent personnel who have
access to all the information supplied with the machine and its safety equipment and
requirements. The results of the examination should be recorded and the user and the employer
of the person performing the examination should keep copies of this record.
The person carrying out the examination should, as a minimum, perform the following checks:
a.
Verify that the edge sensor is suitable for use in the application.
i.) Check that the level of safety integrity provided by the edge sensor is suitable for the
level of risk presented by the machine operation.
ii.) Check that the environment is suitable for the use of the edge sensor.
b. Check that the dimensions and position of the edge sensor are correct, taking into account
the operating mode. For this purpose, it will be necessary to check the overall system
response time using a device designed for this purpose.
c. Check that adequate measures have been taken to prevent access to the dangerous parts of
the machine from any direction not covered by the edge sensor.
d. Examine the machine controls and interconnection wiring to the sensing edge(s) and SIM
and ensure that all connections are correctly and securely made.
e. Check that the sensing edge is fixed in position and that no trip hazards are present within
the dangerous area.
f.
Check that it is not possible for the dangerous parts of the machine to be set in motion while
the edge sensor(s) is actuated.
