Tapeswitch safety edge sensors are intended to detect operators working at or
near dangerous machinery and to send a signal to the safety control system.
They can only perform this function if they are correctly fitted to a suitable
machine. It is essential that the full contents of this manual and all the
authoritative documents referred to herein are fully understood before any
attempt at installation is made. If in doubt, contact Tapeswitch Corporation.
This manual must accompany the product throughout its working life. Those persons
responsible for the product must ensure that all persons involved in the installation,
commissioning, operation, maintenance and servicing of the product have access to all the
information supplied by the manufacturers of the machine and its safety system.

    Installation Manual: Safety Edge 1. INTRODUCTION The TAPESWITCH Safety Edge sensor is a pressure-sensitive safety device designed to protect operators working at or near dangerous machinery. The switch functions as a momentary-contact, normally-open switch which electrically closes when force is applied in the normal direction to the edge sensor.

    This configuration utilizes a single, two-wire cable at one end of the sensor and an appropriate EOL resistor at the other. A suitable SIM (Tapeswitch PSSR/2) will provide a monitored system with safety outputs to be interfaced to the machine control system as intended.

    6.1 General Information The attention of the installer is drawn to the following general requirements for installation of a Tapeswitch sensing edge system: (a) The machine must be electrically controllable (machine power leveraged by internal/external signals).

    6.2 Edge sensor Installation The surface on which the edge sensor is mounted must be sound and reasonably flat. Note: Special configurations of edge sensors, designed to be bent or contoured, can be addressed through Tapeswitch at sales@tapeswitch.com. 6.2.2 Mounting guidelines EDGE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE - Edge series configurations and single edge assemblies may be shipped mostly assembled, in a crate.

Before mounting the flat variant of the channel, simply slide the edge sensor out of the channel and drill holes along the channel’s centerline.

    6.2.4 Installation Procedure and considerations: Step 1 - Secure mounting channel of edge sensor onto your chosen surface. Each of the Tapeswitch edge sensors are available with a variety of options (must be defined at the time of purchase). Note: It is imperative that edge sensors be affixed in such a way as to make it impossible for someone, other than an authorized maintenance person, to adjust or remove.

    IMPORTANT after any part of the system has been replaced, the installation should be considered as new and, as such, should be re-commissioned in accordance with this manual. The edge sensors have no user repairable parts. Contact Tapeswitch Corporation at 1-800-234- 8273 for replacements.
