13 Adding/replacing a UPS module

NOTE
There are two reasons for which removal or reinsertion of a module is required:
• Module maintenance
• Module failure
The procedures described on this chapter are almost the same in both cases. Follow carefully the pro-
cedures to avoid any possible issue with the critical load.
13.1

Single module system

In case the single operating module experiences a
fault, the load will automatically be transferred to
STATIC BYPASS mode and it will continue to be
supplied by the mains power supply.
13.1.1
Skip step 1 in case of module maintenance.
1.
Reset the alarm on the faulty module. The
acoustic signal will stop.
If the alarm condition persists (Relative
ALARM LED indicator always RED) the module
must be probably removed for analysis.
2.
If the module already operates in STATIC BY-
PASS mode, the maintenance bypass switch
Q1 (if present) can be immediately turned to
the ON position (closed).
If the maintenance bypass switch Q1 is not
present, turn to the ON position (closed) the
external maintenance bypass switch instead.
3.
If the module still operates in INVERTER
MODE, transfer first the load to STATIC BY-
PASS mode.
LED INDICATION
PLEASE REFER TO CHAPTER "5.2.1.4-LED STATUS INDICATORS" FOR THE MEANING OF THE LED
INDICATORS, COLOURS AND BEHAVIOUR
THE OPERATIONS DESCRIBED IN THIS CHAPTER MUST BE PERFORMED BY A SERVICE ENGINEER OF THE
MANUFACTURER OR BY AN AGENT CERTIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER

In this situation, the load must first be trans-
ferred to maintenance bypass (Q1, if present) or
to external maintenance bypass before the mod-
ule can be removed.
Perform this operation by means of the
module display or, if present, the general TFT
display installed on the frame.
Under the "COMMAND" menu select "LOAD
TO BYPASS" (If required, enter the password
if the command is performed through the
TFT display).
4.
Turn to the ON position (closed) the mainte-
nance bypass switch Q1 (if present) or turn to
the ON position (closed) the external output
bypass switch instead.
The message "MAN BYP CLOSED" will appear
in the event log of the module as soon as the
maintenance bypass switch Q1 is closed.
The load is now directly supplied by Mains
and it is not protected.
