Chapter 2. Setting up the 10G Network Active Bypass unit

This chapter contains information about connecting the 10G Network Active Bypass unit to your
Network IPS appliance and to your network.

Connecting the 10G Network Active Bypass unit on your network

Use the following procedure to connect the 10G Network Active Bypass unit to the Network IPS
appliances on your network.
Procedure
1. Place the 10G Network Active Bypass unit and the Network IPS appliances on a rack.
Note: You can connect up to four Network IPS appliances to the 10G Network Active Bypass unit.
2. Connect the power cable to the Network IPS appliances and configure them using the installation
instructions provided for your GX appliance. GX appliance installation instructions are available from
the IBM Knowledge Center at http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSB2MG/welcome.
3. Connect the power cables to the 10G Network Active Bypass unit and to two different power sources
(for added redundancy).
Tip: Use independent AC power sources to maximize power redundancy in the event of AC power
loss from a single source.
4. Check the Power LEDs on the 10G Network Active Bypass unit to verify that it is receiving power.
In the preceding figure, the Run LED shows the system status. While the system boots, a green LED
blinks. When the system is operational, the green LED is solid. The Power LED indicates whether the
10G Network Active Bypass unit has detected one or two power connections. A solid green light
indicates that it is connected, whereas a solid red light indicates that there is no connection.
5. Plug a network cable connector into the Appliance port labeled A1 (appliance in) on the 10G Network
Active Bypass unit.
6. Plug the other end of the network cable connector into the corresponding Network IPS appliance.
7. Plug an outside network cable into the Appliance port labeled A2 (appliance out) on the 10G Network
Active Bypass unit.
8. Plug the other end of the outside network cable into the corresponding Network IPS appliance.
