Why can I only see part of the
emails in my inbox?
The phone will typically only download the
first few lines of the email (up to 2KB). This
is to keep your data costs down and to help
you manage your inbox. Should you wish
to see the rest or look at an attachment, click on
the link at the bottom of the email. Then select
Menu then Send/Receive to download the rest.
I know I have emails in my inbox but my
phone is showing the inbox as empty ?
Your phone will only show emails which have
been received in the last 3 days. This is a
default setting which can be changed – please
see page 14, 'Your email settings'. Please
note that the larger your inbox, the more
data you will use to download and view.
Can I control when emails are
downloaded to my phone?
To change the frequency of when mails
are downloaded please see page 14, 'Your
email settings' of this guide, but please
note that more regular checking for new
emails may incur higher data charges.
What is POP?
POP is short for Post Office Protocol. POP is
one method used by email programs to retrieve
email from your provider's email server. The
important feature of POP is that when you
retrieve your email the messages may be moved
from the email server to your BT ToGo. This
means that any email you have read on your

BT ToGo may not be available via webmail or
another email client using your computer, eg:
Outlook Express or Apple Mail. Similarly, if you
use Outlook Express or Apple Mail to read your
emails from another computer, you may not be
able to read these emails on your BT ToGo.
What is IMAP?
IMAP is short for Internet Message Access
Protocol. It is the other main method used
by email programs to retrieve email. Unlike
POP, IMAP keeps your messages on your email
provider's server. When you read an email, IMAP
presents the email that is stored on the server.
This means that your email is available on your
BT ToGo and via webmail or another email client,
eg: Outlook Express or Apple Mail, until you or
one of your email clients deletes it. This provides
a more synchronised experience over POP.
How do I configure POP and IMAP settings?
Your BT ToGo is able to automatically choose
available POP or IMAP settings for many email
providers. However, not all email providers
offer both methods of access. If your BT ToGo
automatically configures POP settings and you
require IMAP or vice versa, then you need to check
directly with your email provider whether they offer
the relevant settings and enter them manually.
How do I fully synchronise my email
between my BT ToGo and my PC?
In addition to setting up the correct settings on
your BT ToGo, you may need to ensure the correct
settings are in place with your email provider, eg:
whether read emails are left on the server or not
