Subnet
An efficient means of splitting packets into two fields to separate packets for local
destinations from packets for remote destinations in TCP/IP networks.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
The basic communication language or protocol of the Internet. It can also be used as a
communications protocol in a private network (either an intranet or an extranet).
Voice Over IP (VoIP)
The technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data network using the Internet
Protocol. Such data network may be the Internet or a corporate Intranet.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
A large (geographically dispersed) network, usually constructed with serial lines, that covers
a large geographic area. A WAN connects LANs using transmission lines provided by a
common carrier.
