Introduction

Modem technology affords remote supervision and remote
alerting.
Both receiver and transmitter of remote supervision and a-
larm receiver can be the ACS software installed on a PC with
modem connection facility. In this case, 2 modems are re-
quired: 1 at the central unit and 1 at the PC.
Alarm receivers can also be mobile phones, pagers and fax
machines. In that case, only 1 modem at the central unit is
needed.
Compared to a standard analog modem, an ISDN modem
does not increase the rate of transmission since this is lim-
ited by the central unit. If a telephone line cannot be laid, a
GSM modem can be used.
