Avro 558 - Background The Avro 558 biplane motor glider, was designed for the 1923 Lympne light aircraft trials. It is certain to delight, with it long slender lines and efficient glide. Two examples were built. The aircraft did not win the competition, but one later went on to establish a altitude world record for its class of 13,850 ft.

Many of the suggested items listed below are available at your local hobby shop. For your convenience, Stevens AeroModel stocks all the power system components and most of the building supplies required to complete this kit. 153. Cover the upper wing with a lightweight, high quality covering material. We recommend AeroLITE , available from stevensaero.com. Only two examples of the Avro 558 were built, and both were finished in overall silver with black registration markings. Leave the top of the wing center section uncovered at this time.

Check Weather - The first flight should be outdoors in calm wind conditions. The Avro 558 is a joy to fly in winds up to 10 miles per hour.

Congratulations! Once you’ve completed your first flights, you will have noticed that the Stevens AeroModel 1923 Avro 558 is a very stable model airplane. When built straight, and trimmed for level flight, it should readily return to “wings level”...
