Error Symptoms
NOTE: To diagnose a problem, first find the error symptom in the left
column. If directed to a check procedure, replace the FRU indicated in the
check procedure. If no check procedure is indicated, the first Action/FRU
listed in right column is the most likely cause.
Fax/voice modem software
program invokes but has no
sound output. (Data files
are received normally;
voice from modem cannot
be produced, but system
sound feature works
normally.)
Modem ring cannot wake up
system from suspend
mode.
Video memory test failed.
Video adapter failed.
Display problem:
- Incorrect colors
- No high intensity
- Missing, broken, or
incorrect characters
- Blank monitor(dark)
- Blank monitor(bright)
- Distorted image
- Unreadable monitor
- Other monitor problems

Action/FRU
Ensure that the modem voice-in/speak-out
cable from modem adapter card to system
board CN14 (see "Machine Type 2153/K6
System Board "on page 5-3) or CN8 (see
"Machine Type 2153/Celeron System Board
Layout" on page 5-8) is connected properly.
"Factory-Installed Modem Card" on page 2-
28.
If not using Win98, then ensure that the
"Modem Wake-Up on Ring" in BIOS Setup is
set to [Enabled].
Ensure that the modem ring-in cable from the
modem adapter card to system board CN9 (
see "Machine Type 2153/K6 System Board
"on page 5-3) or CN10 (see "Machine Type
2153/Celeron System Board Layout" on page
5-8) is connected properly.
In Win 98 ensure that telephone application
is configured correctly for your modem and
set to receive messages and/or faxes.

Remove all non factory cards.
Load default settings (if screen is readable).
