SAFETY

1.1
General precautions
Before starting up the machine and before performing lubrication or maintenance, the operator must have read and
understood all the WARNINGS AND CAUTION MESSAGES in this manual and in the additional technical
documentation provided. The manufacturer cannot however foresee all possible events that can pose risks in the various
conditions of use and operation of the machine. Any maintenance operations and/or procedures not covered or recommended in
the user manuals must always be submitted to the manufacturer for approval. A user who wishes to adopt a procedure not
specifically recommended here is held responsible for making sure that it is safe and does not pose the risk of physical injury.
The following precautions must be followed to the letter to ensure safe operation.
The following instructions cannot safeguard you from all the dangers arising from use of the engine but must be
supplemented by the common sense and experience of the personnel in charge of operating the machine; these are
the only accident prevention measures that are truly indispensable.
- Knowledge of the machine. Read with care all the instructions in the user and maintenance booklets.
- Before starting up the machine, check that all the controls and safety devices are in order.
- Watch out for bystanders. If you expect any dangerous situations to arise, signal manoeuvres in
advance. Do not allow untrained personnel to approach the machine while it is running. Enforce the
obligation to use personal protective equipment (PPE). Observe the provisions of the laws on safety at
the workplace.
- Do not manually clean, oil, lubricate, repair or adjust any of the moving components.
- Wear earmuffs or earplugs to protect hearing. Whenever prolonged exposure to noise is expected.
- Watch out for moving parts. Do not access any mechanical parts while the engine is running. Do not
approach any moving parts while holding cloths or wearing loose clothing, which may get caught in
the transmission devices and cause serious physical injury.
- Protect your hands with gloves. Certain parts (sheet metal, levers, ..) have sharp edges that can cut
you. Use suitable tools and equipment.
- Make sure the pumps are properly primed before starting them.
ATTENTION
- The pumps used in fire-fighting sets are not suitable for pumping liquids containing abrasive
substances, solid or fibrous matter and flammable and explosive liquids.
- The electric pumps are suitable for operation in sheltered locations, protected from the weather and
freezing temperatures. Make sure that no obstructions or obstacles hinder the normal flow of the
cooling and combustion air.
- As a general rule, always turn off the power at the electric panel before installing and/or servicing any
of the electrical and mechanical parts of the module or system.
- The electric panel may only be installed and connected by a qualified electrician in compliance with
the electrical regulations locally in force.
Maintenance: The operating and maintenance instructions describe the operations that can normally be performed
by moderately experienced personnel. In case of problems contact an authorized workshop or your retailer.
Before proceeding with any operation make sure that:
The electric pumps have been secured to prevent accidental start-up (by turning the switch to "0" and
disconnecting the power supply).
1.2
Directions for safe installation and first commissioning
- Allow access to the work site, where the modular pressure boosters are to be installed, to authorized
personnel only. Post a sign to give warning of work in progress.
- Post a sign on all the electrical cutoff devices designed to isolate those parts of the system on which
work is to be carried out. Whenever possible, use key-operated lockout devices to prevent any
accidental, dangerous manoeuvres.
- The site and installation of the set (foundation, air inlet, etc.) must comply with the safety standards
locally in force.
- Enforce the obligation to use the personal protective equipment (PPE) described in section 1.1 above.
- Do not remove the original protections on exposed rotating parts, hot surfaces, air intakes, belts and
live electrical components. Do not leave any disassembled components on the electric motor or its
vicinity; do not leave any tools or other parts not belonging to the system in the same room or near the
set.
- Install all the necessary safety protections on the parts that complete the system.
- Check that all the warning devices are fully functional.
- Observe the following rules to prevent any accidental start-ups:
- Key operated selector switch on the electric panel must be set to the "0" position.
- Turn the main door-lock switch "OFF".
ATTENTION
- Adopt all precautionary measures designed to prevent any risk of electric shock; make sure there is a
grounding system according to the standards in force.
- Isolate all the connectors and disconnected wires.
Check: correct ventilation in the room.
