    Introduction The DVD-ROM drive reads digital data stored on DVD-ROM (Digital Versatile Disc), DVD-R, CD-R or CD-RW. The DVD-ROM drive supports the encryption algorithm CSS (Contents Scramble System) developed to protect against illegal pirated copies of DVD videos. The DVD-ROM drive supports the RPC-II (Phase II System of Regional Playback Control) function. This function enables the final user to change the country code of the drive up to five times to play back corresponding DVD videos.

    DVD-ROM drive Setting the DVD drive On the rear of the DVD drive there are eight jumpers. Jumper TEST is reserved and must not be inserted. SCSI address (ID1, ID2, ID4) The default SCSI address setting of the DVD drive is ID 3. If address ID 3 is already occupied by another SCSI device, the address setting for the DVD drive must be changed with jumpers ID1, ID2 and ID4 according to the following table.

    DVD-ROM drive Parity checking (PRTY) "Parity bits" are used to check data transfer via the SCSI bus. The parity check should always be active, if it is supported by the SCSI Host Adapter.     DVD-ROM drive Connecting the DVD drive The DVD drive has the following connectors at the rear side: 1 = Analog audio line output (LINE OUT) 3 = Power supply connector 2 = SCSI interface Connecting SCSI cable and power supply cable Plug the 50-pin SCSI cable into the SCSI interface of the DVD drive (1).
  • Page 8 DVD-ROM drive Connecting an analog audio line The DVD drive can be connected to an audio board (soundcard) via the audio output. Further information on the audio board may be found in the associated documentation. An audio cable is not included in the consignment of the DVD drive. Normally this cable is supplied with an audio board or other interface devices.

    DVD-ROM drive Installing the driver software required Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 and Windows NT already contain the necessary drivers for reading DVD-ROM and CD-ROM media. To play DVD videos (MPEG-2), you also require an DVD player (MPEG-2 hardware or software). A DVD player is not included in the consignment of the DVD drive. As the drive supports the function RPC-II (Phase II System of Regional Playback Control), the DVD player must also support the function RPC-II.

    DVD-ROM drive Operation If the DVD drive is operated in a horizontal position, both 8-cm and 12-cm CDs or DVDs may be used. If the drive is operated in a vertical position, only 12-cm diameter CDs or DVDs may be used. Use only high-quality CDs and DVDs.

    DVD-ROM drive Drive indicator The indicator flashes quickly when a CD/DVD is inserted. The indicator goes out when the drive is ready for reading. If the display does not go out after you have inserted a CD/DVD but glows constantly although the CD/DVD is not accessed, the CD/DVD is probably damaged or dirty.

    DVD-ROM drive Manually removing the CD In the event of a power failure or damage to the drive it may be necessary to manually remove the CD/DVD. Switch off your system unit. Using a thick wire, firmly press the button for manual ejection (e. g. a large paper clip). The drive tray is unlocked and can be opened.
