Parity checking (PRTY)
"Parity bits" are used to check data transfer via the SCSI bus. The parity check should always be
active, if it is supported by the SCSI Host Adapter.
Jumper PRTY inserted = Parity check enabled
Jumper PRTY not inserted = Parity check disabled
Default setting:
Jumper PRTY inserted = Parity check enabled
Terminating resistor (TERM ON/OFF)
The TERM ON/OFF jumper is used to switch the active terminating resistor on and off.
The terminating resistor must be switched on if the DVD drive is connected as the last drive on the
SCSI bus. If another device is connected behind the DVD drive, the terminating resistor of the DVD
drive must be switched off (jumper not inserted).
Jumper TERM ON/OFF inserted = terminating resistor switched on
Jumper TERM ON/OFF not inserted = terminating resistor switched off
Default setting:
Jumper TERM ON/OFF inserted = terminating resistor switched on
Removing DVD (PRV/ALW)
You can lock the eject button by means of the jumper PRV/ALW (PREVENT/ALLOW). The DVD can
then be ejected only by the means of a software command.
Jumper PRV/ALW inserted = Removing prevented
Jumper PRV/ALW not inserted = Removing possible
Default setting:
Jumper PRV/ALW not inserted = Removing possible
Termination power (POWER SUPPLY)
The POWER SUPPLY jumper sets the power supply for the terminating resistors. The terminating
resistors can be provided with power by the drive or the SCSI bus.
Jumper POWER SUPPLY inserted = Power supply via the drive
Jumper POWER SUPPLY not inserted = Power supply via the SCSI bus
Default setting:
Jumper POWER SUPPLY not inserted = Power supply via the SCSI bus

Mounting the DVD drive

The DVD drive requires a 5 ¼ inch "half-height" slot. It can be installed horizontally or vertically. You
are recommended to install the drive horizontally.
If the DVD drive is operated in a horizontal position, both 8-cm and 12-cm CDs or DVDs
i
may be used. If the drive is operated in a vertical position, only 12-cm diameter CDs or
DVDs may be used.

Install the DVD drive as described in "Installing a disk drive" in the Technical Manual or in the
Operating Manual of the system unit.
