DVD-ROM drive

Installing the driver software required

Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 and Windows NT already contain the necessary drivers for
i
reading DVD-ROM and CD-ROM media.
To play DVD videos (MPEG-2), you also require an DVD player (MPEG-2 hardware or
software). A DVD player is not included in the consignment of the DVD drive.
As the drive supports the function RPC-II (Phase II System of Regional Playback Control),
the DVD player must also support the function RPC-II. This function enables the final user
to change the country code of the drive up to five times to play back corresponding DVD
videos. After the fifth change, the last country code set remains permanently set in the
drive. It is then not possible to make further changes.
To operate the DVD drive under MS-DOS and Windows 3.xx, you require the program MSCDEX.EXE
and the Adaptec device driver EZ-SCSI 5.0. The driver is located on the "Drivers & Utilities" CD.

The Adaptec driver EZ-SCSI 5.0 supplements the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files as
shown below:
Example:
DEVICE=C:\SCSI
CONFIG.SYS
AUTOEXEC.BAT
C:\SCSI\MSCDEX.EXE
If your system uses the memory manager EMM386.EXE, the new line must be inserted
i
behind the EMM386.EXE line in the CONFIG.SYS file.

Change - if necessary - the LASTDRIVE entry in the CONFIG.SYS file (e. g. LASTDRIVE=F)

Reboot the system so that the changes to the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files become
effective.
With the installed driver you can play CDs and DVDs in the DVD drive using the ISO 9660
i
file system.
